SPAZIO

Intro

A brand that belongs to no one. So it belongs to everyone. SPAZIO is a cultural space in Marseille conceived by NEO Collective as a territory for artists, performers, and the local scene to occupy. The challenge was structural: how do you build a brand for a place whose reason to exist is to resist fixity? A space that is simultaneously bar, café, cultural venue, and stage can't be contained by a closed identity system. Any brand that tried to define SPAZIO would contradict it. So we built one that doesn't. The concept came from the city. In Marseille there's no such thing as a blank wall. Graffiti isn't tolerated here, it's constitutive. Every surface is a declaration of presence. We took that logic and built the brand from the inside out: the visual vocabulary came from a collective session with the artists who would use the space, their raw drawings becoming the illustration system. The steel gate at the entrance was designed from day one as the first canvas, empty at launch, waiting to be marked. The wordmark (SPAZIO) uses parentheses as argument, not decoration: bounded but never closed. The reduced symbol ( ) is a blank space between two delimiters. The system was built to accumulate, not preserve. The wordmark anchors. The hand-drawn characters, a cat on a skateboard, a figure mid-spray, forms that are animal and architecture at once, derive from it with no official version, no hierarchy. Every poster is different. Every application leaves the white field intact: not negative space, but invitation. SPAZIO launched incomplete on purpose. That's the brief, the concept, and the outcome.
